I have a question reference to repairing credit/credit scores. Due to a past hardship (illness) settlement on accounts were made and 1 court judgment, that I have been paying on for over a year, regularly how do you rebuild? My mortgage was just paid in full and no other credit card debt. I am trying to repair credit/credits scores. I am in a relationship (committed), which my partner has excellent credit. I would like to know if I am added to a his card to start building, will it put him in any danger to his credit, if so, then what is the best way to proceed to build my backup. Thanks!
Shirley,
You can take a number of steps to rebuild your credit and not have to be an authorized user on your sweetie's account. First, look at all the inquiries. I bet there are some you haven't authorized. Get those removed.
Next, if you have old accounts, ask the CRAs to remove them. Since I don't know your situation, I don't know what to tell you to say in the request to remove letter. But, believe me, you should do it.
Next, if you have active credit cards use them to make small purchases and pay them before the due date. For example, sending payment on the day you receive the statement almost guaantees you'll pay before the due date.
This establishes a pattern of good payment. How much will it raise your score? Hard to say, but it won't lower your score and potential creditors will see you pay on time.
Try these few tricks and I bet your score goes up.
