Why the feds didn't make it mandatory to make the credit score part of the free credit report package is beyond me but they didn't. I guess the CRAs padded their re-eelction campaign chests with enough dollars. That way they could still make a killing selling us our scores. Here is a site that will give you your approximate credit score. It is on MSN so it is fairly reputable and reliable. Mind you, it isn't your score, it is only a ballpark number: http://moneycentral.msn.com/Investor/Creditreport/Main.asp I tried it out on me before I posted it and by golly it was close.
