- I do think people in business should hire someone like you in order to keep track of their financials.  It is good to have someone from the outside rather than have someone from inside the business.

judirich - Right now I offer bookkeeping services to local clients and I pick up their documents and work at home, but other bookkeepers I know will go to the place of business and work a few hours a week at the office.  I believe it can also be done over the internet by accessing a company's computer, inputting the information, reconciling, etc.  QuickBooks offers a remote access program that does just that.  It would require some security measures as you don't want just anyone getting into your books. 

If you're interested, QuickBooks has trained professionals who can set up your books and provide other services.  Not sure what they charge, but it would be a place to start.

Carlo - I just want to say I think that is an awesome service.  I think most business owners are kind of like me.  They get wrapped up in the parts of running the business they are passionate about about things like managing the records just gets put off.  Do you physically visit the offices to do your work or do you have a means of doing it over the Internet?
