- This economic crisis really places us in a hard situation.and Good post.
- This one is really hard. While the other may want to give fiancial support to his child but if he is saddled with his own financial problems, then I think there should be some sort of agreement between both parents as to how the other one who is incapable of financially supporting the child can be of help in other ways at the moment while he is still trying to find some work.

- very helpful suggestion. This economic crisis really places us in a hard situation. Just do what we can and we afford to.
- good one
- thank you for your suggestions. my hands are all surrended to those that are supporting their children even if they have to find ways to make ends meet. it is not easy, i have to admit and well... my father hasn't shown his face to us since i was in 6th grade.. no support and we have had troubled times before.. at least we are doing very well now...
to those who are in need of a lot of support, just be positive and you will get through all the bad times

- we must get ready and save money now for our child.

- New laws under a Democratic President may make it more difficult to get out of paying child support. A parent should pay for what the child needs even if that parent is not living in their house; that person will be their financial responsibility for years to come!
- This is great advice for anyone who pays child support and unfortunately looses their job. It's a hard thing to deal with on both sides, one person owes the child support and the custodial parent depends on the receiving the child support. I hope the economy improves for everyone's sake.
- It is true that something must be done in legal process to make moderations, if needed. But to show willingness to bear the responsibility, you can not appear shaking off completely, a deferred payment or make up payments might be better acceptable, and meanwhile, some agency or some people should be arranged in place to help assist the financial need. Child and child's life and study should not in any way be disturbed.
- I am also one of the victims of recent economic changes and also job losses are more in other countries than in US, due to the changes happened in US.
buggles
- I recently petitioned the court to leave the state. I have child support coming to me, and I also pay child support on my 16 year old daughter. The economy is bad, and the job market in the town that I live in is nil....My ex owes me over 8,000 in back child support and more than likely I will never see that money. I'm struggling and living with my Mom, but at least my child support is current for my 16 year old. My goal is to get a job....and it's not happening in Michigan.
Debbie
- Petitioning the court seems like a good idea, if you've temporarily lost your job and you have court-ordered child support payments. Obviously if you aren't making enough through unemployment to pay the child support, then something has to change.
I think that anyone who does pay child support and gets laid off should be making the extra effort to find new employment as quickly as possible though - not only do they need it for themselves (and perhaps their current family), but their children and caretaker rely on that money as well.
Difficult times!
