varushar - Please guide me to how to work part time and to get a temporary job since here, at my part of world, it is very tough to get a temporary job.
- This is definitely a helpful list. I'll have to print it off for my husband.
- Resourcefulness and hard work matter a lot when you lose your job.  What is important is that you are actually doing something and not just dreaming of something big that is not going to happen.
pinl - Very good suggestions but I am not able to have peace of mind when I dont have enough earnings and increasing debts. I just cant concentrate.

sophie_dfuss - I am also planning to do freelance part-time writing. I love to be a volunteer.

I went to a vacation after I resigned from job in 2007, my  previous job makes me sick.
whiteheron -  The ability to look for the good in a seemingly negative experience makes a person thrive through adversity rather than being conquered by it. I thank you for your kindness in sharing your approach to dealing with the lay off as it will, I think, provide many people with an alternative to the fears that they have been experiencing.
highspirits - It is a positive way of looking at things. We keep saying that we would do loads of things if only we had time! (I hope not) but if things come to it and I am laid off, I would try to remember your article and get up and make the list of things I can do and probably make my own fortune.
- See, i may well be in this position where i may well be unemployed come May as the company i work for are a client of T-Mobile and they are opening a call centre overseas therefore are closing down the call centre where i work. We are currently in a 90 day consultation period, where we are being kept in the dark about everything, which isn't at all good as we can't exactly just go out and find a new job in this current climate. It hasn't properly sunk in yet, so come May i might have to refer back to this blog.
- It is such a enlightening article. While facing the challenges, thinking and acting with a positive attitude is much better a way of life.

In addition to all the favorable options one can take to tide over the lay off, there is another option for the young couple, which quite some of career ladies are thinking of. That is to plan for a child, which they have put off due to busy work. A lovely and healthy baby might fill up the gap before the economy is recovered in a couple of years. But the precondition is you have an optimistic perspective towards the whole thing.

buggles - Insightful wisdom, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.  Take the negative and twist it into something positive.  You can always look for work while you are laid off.  I've tried a couple other career paths in the last four years and have not been happy with anyone of them.  It took me long enough to decide I wanted to be a teacher at the age of 26.  That was the right decision for me, but I like your approach.
