beentheredonethat (Guest) - another thing you can do if you are strapped and can't pay alot extra but will show a difference to keep you doing it each month is take your minimum payment and add to it the interest amount (finance charge) that is shown on the statement and make sure to pay it with your minimum each month.  Thats what I did and it made quite a difference and helped me pay off an old account quicker.
rhitter94 - I have used this method, but something a little different.  I pay the minimum payment when the bill gets in and then an additional amount two weeks later.

- It is really an Eye Opener! I didn't know. Thanks for sharing such useful Information
scgodess - I usually try to make a payment on my credit card every pay even if it's only $15 or $20.  This way i'm never late and I'm kind of making double (and sometimes) triple payments.
oreocookie3 - I really don't understand the concept of dividing your payment in half and saving interest. You'd be paying the same payment which includes the interest, so I just don't understand what you are saying. Sorry. :)
- It is really an Eye Opener! I didn't know. Thanks for sharing such useful Information!
- That's a nice tip. You don't need to stop at two payments though....you can pay as soon as you have money to spare so you won't spend it on other trivial things.

ruel_ortilla - unique!!!!!
- this is interesting, and yes as i have worked in a credit card company... you can actually maximize the number of days before you pay your due without paying any interest. you just have to know when and how to do it. :)
MVVSPR - Interesting information.I will try it out.
- interesting idea .. i will try it once..
mikeadam (Guest) - Imagine yourself being free from credit card debt – no more threats from collection agencies, no more anxiety, and no more sleepless nights. If you think you can get out of debt on your own, then go ahead and do it. However, some people need a third party to help them through this process. If that’s the case, then you need to seek the services of a debt consolidation agency.

Taface412 - Interesting idea.  I am still amazed I used to think paying the minimum due was okay....learned that lesson.

Thanks.
- you were right it is better to pay on due time rather than make the credit compounds its interest . This is where the part that credit card hold starts to have huge debt because of the compound interest of the interest.
sophie_dfuss - I didn't know that credit cards accrue interests daily as much as that. Thank you sharing this information. Good article.
tennissandgirl - We did that once a couple of years ago. Can't remember how well it worked! Thanks for the reminder!

- Thas really good idea we can open a special account to get intrest and for our savings.
sweetseoul - This sounds like a great idea. Please correct me if I'm wrong. You mean to say, I'll pay twice a month before the due date....for example if my credit card due date is every 20th of the month...I'll pay the bank on day1 and day 10 of the month.....if my minimum credit due is $50..i'll just pay $25 each time? Is that correct?  Thanks!
sophie_dfuss - Wow thanks for sharing, I didn't know credit cards put up interests as much as that.

beautyqueen26 - I will try this idea. As you point out, there's more than one way to decrease your credit card debt without paying more.

Hopefully this site will help me discover the ways.

Thanks for your informative article.

Very helpful.
Debbie - When I paid credit cards bi-weekly instead of once a month, my statement would say I owed "0" for the minimum payment most of the time.

If you're minimum payment is $100 and you send $20 per week you've only paid $80 of your minimum payment so your statement should show you still owe $20, but it will depend on when the billing cycle ends each month -  if they've only processed 2 out of 4 payments by the time they print your bill, for example...

If you want to send the same amount to your credit card but pay it weekly rather than all at once, divide your minimum payment by 4 weeks so you know how much to send each week.  Keep an eye on your due date and make sure all 4 payments are sent/applied before the due date though b/c if your last payment is made AFTER the due date, you'll technically be late....
- This sounds like a great idea and I totally understand the concept. I just have a question, after you did this what did your monthly statement end up being?  For example, if the min payment is $100 so I send $20 every week by the time the bill is actually due will it still show $100 or something else?
- Recently many credit acrd frauds have been detected and many of them are in trouble and may be majority of them haven't read about all the details given here
- Most credit card companies allow you to pay online with no transaction fee, or you can use their automated line for no extra fees.  I pay our credit cards weekly as well, and I haven't had any problems with it, and I do save a bunch in interest.
VickyG (Guest) - Most credit card companies only allow payments to happen within a certain window of time.  They would regard the earlier month payment as "extra" and then still expect the full payment when your due date roles around.  It's still a great idea if you can scrape the cash together, but you may still have to make your full payment later in the month.
Carolyn - Great idea - one thing to watch out for may be excessive transaction fees perhaps? I'm not sure on this one.
