- I had no idea about closing an account would effect my score that much. I had a student loan and it was paid so they automactically closed the account I guess that lowered my score than. Well you learn something new everyday I guess. Thanks for this much needed info :)
rebelmel
- Thanks for the tips! I found out recently about the credit report thing. I have poor credit and I have been trying for months to get a card, but I kept getting denied. I didn't know that applying over and over again was hurting my credit! These things work in funny ways, you need credit to get credit. Trying to get credit will hurt your credit. I don't even know what to do anymore!
- good information
- thanks for sharing and giving those information. some people really don't know the right thing to do with their cc.

- OK! That answers some questions I've had for awhile. Now it's making sense to me. As for keeping credit cards on your account even after they are paid off, that makes sense. Why not just use the credit card to pay for a small monthly or yearly expense, like renewing your driver's license. That's around $50 and can be paid off quickly and not allowed to turn into debt.
That would keep the card active on your credit report and the good credit history would still be shown.
alfpr35
- i agree with u 100% sir........
niitesh
- Great bit of information in the article
shruthi
- you are absolutely correct

- While I did know about the credit checks hurting your score I didn't know it could be negative if you pay off and close an account. Alot of information was in this that i didn't know. Thanks for the great information.
- What a nice information. . .
sophie_dfuss
- Great informations ;-)
-
It is very informative about the card.Thx for the article it change my think toward the cards.
erica5412
- I didnt know that if you keep a credit card that isnt used active it will hurt you. I am very shocked. Now i have to go & cancel all my cards i dont use.
- As it mentioned , one of my friends faced a lot and happened to pay huge amount for leaving his credit card inactive and remaining the the account live. It is better to close every thing,if we don't want to use it anymore.

(Guest) - if you screw your loans up then they will. The more the entries on your credit (as long as they are good), the better. Credit scores fluctuate over time. The idea is to get the loans and make timely payments. As long as you keep your student loans in good standing whatever the terms of agreement are, they will reflect positively on your credit report and help it. When it comes to credit report, everything helps as long as you dont screw it up by being late and worse defaulting.
- Thanks for the knowledge behind the counter. The seemingly honest behaviors could have led to negative credit scores. I have to keep in mind and pass on to my children, who are more of the kind in use of credit cards. For me, I keep it mostly for contingency needs, and for payments during overseas trips to save foreign exchange transactions expenses.
- Thks for the bunch of information! Many of us dont have the complete information about the impact such things can have on the credit score.
Lakota12
- Oh damn then my score has gone down again!
buggles
- and yet, one of the first things we are told to do when we are in debt is to "cut up" those credit cards. Maybe I'll rethink closing one of my accounts.
