thinkingoutloud - These are fabulous ideas!  Not only are they "(Almost) Free" but these are the kind of ideas that strengthen a relationship, not just help the budget.  Anyone can walk into a store and buy some kind of gift.  I know plenty of people that shop with absolutely no thought given to what they buy -- as long as they buy "something," that is good enough.  The suggestions in this article show forethought and care for the other person.  I think it's a lot more satisfying to do something or give something where you've invested a little of yourself instead of invested a little cash.

Cfrance - The best Christmas I have had was a chirstmas that no one had money to spend on eachother so we all decided to make things for eachother. We all got cookies,  painted pictures, I gave the cd idea with peoples favorite music on them. We all had so much fun. we did more talking and laughing than worrying if others liked the gifts . I love what you wrote here. Any holiday should be more about the person and less about spending lots of money.

Another thing that I do is use ecards and send them to friends and loved ones for the major holidays. I find that they are just as well received among my thrifty friends as something that I've paid for.

Also, I use my hand craft skills to create personalized gifts.
