Debt Destroy

Tips for the Coming Summer Semester

 A Debt-Free Student Life - Posted: 4/5/2009
As the start of my summer classes quickly approaches, I thought of things that would make me save my daily allowance.

1. Leave a percentage of you daily allowance at home
This is to ensure that you would not spend too much on unneeded things. Sometimes, you just want to buy that expensive chocolate cake though you do not really feel that hungry.

2. Bring your brown bag everyday
Now what is a brown bag? It's a colloquial term for the packed lunch! When you pack your own lunch, you get to plan on what to eat for the whole week. You get to pick healthy and cheaper ingredients for your lunch. It's like hitting two birds with one stone.

3. Keep jealousy aside
Now, your classmate bought that new shiny iPod. And you want it too. You think that you have enough savings to buy your own, but please, ask yourself first if you really NEED the iPod. Well, if that friend is really your friend, he would let you borrow his new iPod. :)

4. Walk instead of using public transportation
Now this part is completely optional. Though, since my university is an open campus, I just walk when transferring from one building to another. It is such a challenge amidst the scorching sun. Can you?

starlight - Great tips sis! Indeed a very practical way of saving not just for students and even those who are working.
chez - Great tips sis.  For working girls like me I can still follow your advise on bringing the borown bag including a coffee thermos, avoiding jealousy, and walking to work if its near.  Walking is also an important cardio exercise aside from saving the fare.  And sis you can also add saving in a piggy bank or closed jar any loose change.
