3 Green Living Tips to Help You Save

 Money Goals - Posted: 4/2/2009
Whether you are an avid safe the environment kind of person, or you are an avid save my budget kind of person there are a few ways that we can help Mother Earth in addition to saving our money all at the same time.  And you don't even have to hug a tree, search for "green" products or preach the gospel of living naturally.  you can do these three little things that will show you some return in the quiet confounds of your home.

1.  In the summer, if you live in a house with property that is, stop using the dryer all the time. Line dry your clothes.  Not only will you save money on your electricity bill, but you will also save wear and tear on your clothes and your clothes dryer.  Plus, there is nothing more refreshing than clothing or bed linens that have been line dried.

Benefits:   Clothing and linens smell fresher longer, whites are brighter, and jeans/pants won't shrink.

Obstacles:  Rainy days prevents you from line drying all the time.  And nature does occur out there so make  sure your line is in a decent spot free of trees.

2.  Switch your bulbs to the energy saving spiral bulbs.  Since I have changed mine I notice I don't have to replace bulbs more often.  And they make them small enough to fit the hood above your stove as well, which I leave mine on all the time.  I think last year I replaced mine for the first using the new bulb.

Benefits: Saves money on electricity bill as well as purchasing new bulbs constantly.

Obstacles: They take a little while to warm up so the light is dim at first.  Amd they are kind of expensive when you purchase them for every room in the house.

3.  Recycle aluminum cans.  This may seem like it is a hassle, but you can make a simple solution by setting up a recycle bin in your kitchen or garage.  Purchse one of the can crushers you assempble on the wall above the recycling bin and line the bin with a bag.  you would be amazed sometimes at the money you are literally throwing away.  On average I receive about $8 for two bags of crushed cans and that is when the compensation for aluminum was low.  So if you have space in your garage you can stack the bags up and cash in when the price of aluminum goes up.

Benefits:   You are helping Mother Earth by recycling, keeping the price of goods low because they do not have to create more aluminum for our drinks, etc.  And you cash in a bit of the money you spent on the product itself in the first place.

Obstacles:  All that sugary sweetness in the can can draw bugs.  So make sure you store them in an aread away from the house.  And if you do not crush as you go it can be a hassle to do all of them at once.

These three green living tips can help you save money and even generate a little extra to put into your change jar.  After all, these things are important to anyone who is in repayment and the tree huggers will thank you for taking the time help our Mother Earth.
