Everyone is looking for new ideas to save a few bucks here and there. So let's get started. These are simple little tricks that may seem time consuming at first, but when you get the hang of it they become second nature. And when you add up the savings you don't feel so foolish.
1. Work lunches. I know a lot of people dine out while at work. I used to until I started adding it up.
Let's say you buy lunch everyday for $5
You work five days a week= $25 per week for lunches
This adds up to $1200 in one year.
Just think about what you could do with that extra $1200 per year if you brought leftovers, or lunches you made from home. Most people in debt give up luxuries like vacations, clothes shopping, etc.
2. Snacks. The snack machine looks awfully good sometimes around midday. And most average around $1.00 per snack (chips, cookies).
Let's say you buy a snack out of the machine everyday for $1
You work five days a week= $20 per month for snacks
This adds up to $240 in one year.
I know this is not as much as the first one, but combine the two and now you have some spending money to go shopping for your vacation clothes, or for anything else you want. An alternative so you don't go hungry around the midday is to purchase a big bag of chips at the grocery for around $1.70-$2.00 and rebag them in the sandwich/snack bags. They keep fresh this way, you save money and you still get your snack all week long for the cost of one day out of the snack machine.
These might only be two little steps, but they are big savers. And you will be surprised once you get started thinking about these you might come up with a few of your own. And another added benefit is that many people are linking people whose financial life is unhealthy with being physcially unhealthy. The two are closely related. So just doing these two steps not only will you be healthier fiscally you will be healthier physically. Plus who can resist home cooked food over Arby's?
