My Plan to Live Debt-Free - Tax Time 2010

The Plan to Live Life - Posted: 1/23/2010
Hello dear readers to a special edition of my blog.  Well, it is that wonderful time of the year, and yes, I am being somewhat sarcastic.  First of all, let's have a show of hands for those who had to file a state tax return for California.  Dear fellow Californians - I feel your pain.  I did my taxes the other day, and I am getting a refund of.. wait for it.. wait for it... SEVEN DOLLARS!  WOW!!!!  I feel so lucky.  Golly Gee!!!  I can buy a gallon of milk, some bread, eggs and syrup and have some french toast!  And for that, I want to thank the wonderful state legislators for bankrupting our wonderful state.

Okay, seriously, part of this is my fault because I did not read the tax bulletins I received.  Nor did I adjust my withholdings.  See what happens when you get lazy and comfortable.  The point that I am making is that we cannot afford to get comfortable or lazy.  It will cost you.  Read your bulletins and any literature that will impact your financial profile.  It is the key to the success of becoming debt-free.  There are plenty of resources out there.  We can do this!

On a sweeter note, my federal tax return looks more promising, and so, I will be able to knock down some of my debt and put some in savings.  It would be foolish for me to apply ALL of it towards my debt being that I don't have any savings.  So I am going to start building my savings, while working on getting my debt down.  So if it means that I don't have cable television for 6 months, so be it!  If it means that I give up my BlackBerry (sniff sniff), so be it!  Hey, I gave up Starbucks!  So, things are looking better and better!
