If  you are not using your  electrical machines, you better turn off it, like as TV,microwave, AC, water coolers,  radio, computer, light, etc. This actually means the machines is still using up electricity and wastes a considerable amount of energy. By turning off at the main power button, or even the socket, you could be saving both energy and money, even our planet. Items left on standby use up to 85% of the energy they would use if fully turned on. An extra million tonnes of carbon will be released into the atmosphere through this power wastage.

In most houses, about 10%-15% of the electricity bill is for lighting so energy saving light bulbs can cut your costs considerably. Traditional bulbs waste a lot of energy by turning it into heat but energy saving bulbs work in the same way as fluorescent lights, the tubes coating glows brightly as an electric current passed through gas in the tube. They may be more expensive to buy than traditional bulbs. No matter what type of lighting you are using, always turn the lights off when you leave a room.

An average person, even I, who uses a computer would usually just walk away from it when we are done, or if we are gone for an extended time (and they know about it in advance) they'll probably put it in sleep . I (myself) use to keep my computer on about 8 hours a day, just saying I'll comeback to it later. Well there are many ways to save electricity.

Here are some initiatives that homes in everywhere should consider taking to reduce their energy consumption:

    1.      Turn off lights when in rooms that are unoccupied. 2.      Switch off electronic equipment that's not being used to avoid televisions being left blaring in empty living rooms or idle computers being left on. 3.      If your home is left empty for a while, be sure to unplug items that have stand-by functions. 4.      If you have a dishwasher, use it efficiently by filling it up to the maximum before use and limit the number of times you run it. 5.      Avoid placing furniture and other items in front of air conditioning vents. 6.      Always keep doors and windows closed when air conditioning is on. 7.      Put insulation around the pipes going in and out of your water heater. 8.      If your home is going to be empty for more than a couple days, turn off your water heater. 9.      Drain four to five liters of water from the faucet at the bottom of your water heater, as this will remove the sediment in the water which reduces the energy efficiency of your water heater. 10.  Close doors and vents in rooms you are not using. 11.  Turn off the water when brushing your teeth and take shorter showers, saving both water and the electricity that it takes to pump and heat the water. 12.  Make use of daylight hours and avoid keeping unneeded lights on. 13.  Use one large light bulb instead of a few small ones. One 100-watt light bulb uses less energy and gives off more light than two 60-watt bulbs. 14.  Use fluorescent light bulbs because they use 75 percent less energy and last longer than incandescent light bulbs. 15.  Use light bulbs that are low in wattage in areas of your house where you don't need bright light. 16.  Make sure that outdoor lighting is turned off during the day. 17.  Decide what you want from the refrigerator or freezer before you open them so you don't waste electricity by keeping the door open unnecessarily. 18.  Remove dirt and dust from the coils at the rear of your refrigerator every few months in order to lower your energy bill and to keep the condenser working better. 19.  Allow hot foods to cool down to room temperature before placing them in the refrigerator. 20.  Ensure that only full loads of clothing are in your washing machine before use and use the coolest water possible for washing and rinsing the clothes. 21.  If you use a clothes dryer, clean the filter each time and make sure it is full before use, drying one load immediately after another because this uses less energy since the dryer is already hot; make sure you stop the dryer as soon as the clothes are dry. 22.  Keep your window blinds, curtains or shades closed during the day. 23.  Use fans instead of air conditioning whenever possible as these use much less electricity. 24.  Only use air conditioning sparingly and get into the habit of turning it off when rooms are empty. 25.  Regularly clean or replace your air conditioning filters. 26.  Try turning up the thermostat a few degrees when you have the air conditioning on. 27.  If you have a house with some land around it, plant trees as the shade they provide will reduce the need for cooling devices. 28.  If you can, shade your air conditioning unit. Understand that this saving is not restricting your freedom, but this a way to be fair to yourself, the nature and rest of the world.
