Saving while on a vacation
Today is actually a non working holiday here in our country until Friday. Its going to be a long weekend vacation for the employees. Its called Holy Week where majority of people are Catholic and they have to re-live Christs' suffering and resurrection. Some people use this time to reflect while some prefer to use it to take a vacation and travel.
For me, I use this as a time to do my freelance job but since I am not actively working in an office set up, I still have problems when it comes to saving. First is, for obvious reason, I am not really earning. My freelance job has just started and is not income generating. Its also quite hard because of electricity expenses since I use the PC the whole time for my client's needs. Second of my reason is, I have friends who keeps on inviting me to go out. This is a great opportunity for us to bond and I don't have a good excuse not to go with them. Yes its true that I don't want to spend a lot of money but again I don't want to limit myself at home while my friends are on a vacation.
It was an abrupt call from my friend. We are going out tonight. I was quite worried of the expenses I have to shoulder but I made a compromise not to spend above my limit. I also told my friend that they have to fetch me because I dont have someone to bring me to the place of our meeting. This is a good alternative to save gas if you are on a budget. My friend agreed. And I readied myself for our meet up tonight.
The ending? I didnt even spend a dime! I had free transportation and I already ate at home. We didnt actually dine out. We just did the Visita Iglesia--Which is a traditon here to visit at least 7 churches during holy week) and voila...It was an instant bonding minus the spending for me and for my friends. :)
The lesson here? Think of unique ways not to go over the limit. You might be surprised how clever you might be when it comes to saving. :) Little things like this can bring big differences.
Have fun! :)
