Early Budgeting & Making Money

How to make money as a student:

In all of my experiences as a student, I've never really thought much about money.

Money has never been in abundance, but has also never been absent.
I've never really worried about money running out, or saving for college, until one day, my brother gets a bill for his college expenses... It's over $5,000! I only have about 1% of that saved in the bank! How am I supposed to afford college???

I began to plan a budget, and also started looking for ways to earn money, without getting an actual job.

I began not going out to eat so much afterschool, and I began looking for the best prices, or when something was on sale to buy something. Before, I used to think ,"Ah, it's only five, six dollars more. What the heck. I'll buy it anyway."

Then I realized that if I did that maybe 50 times, it would be $250! If I got $250 free, I would die!

I began to look for the best deals, and only buy necessities, or things I really, really wanted.

Once I had a sense of budget, I began to look for ways of making money.

I found a few:
- Sell Photoshop creations for $5-15
- Administrate websites/forums to help start them up
- Resell items, or sell tips to games

I started up a PayPal account, and the cash started flowing in. At my "richest" point, I had about $300, but then I started spending, now that I had money. So I took one step forward, and two steps backwards. I started making money again, and forced myself not to buy anything. I now maintain a nice amount of cash, which I am considering using to invest on a website that my friend and and I are going to develop. That might add even more nice cash flow, if it  is successful. So far I'm doing pretty good for a high school student...

The next thing I have to learn is how to make succesful websites, and how to make money off of them...

ava6 - Great! At that age very few people think about money and budgeting the money or planning etc. You have done great job and you inspired many people to do so.Congratulation for good work.
cakelover - Very inspiring, I hope I had done it before as well. I regretted all my silly decisions of buying new stuuf, branded clothes and anything that are in fashion. I should have saved earlier too.
anne_20002002 - i inspired this article, very nice
sahed - Good articles.
- You got one inspiring story there. Yes, it can be done, and in your case, you are slowly doing it with your own initiative.  That is very good.  Keep it up. You never really have to be in debt if you want a college education.  You said you have proven that, and I agree with you.
