Being in debt makes most people a little miserable. Being in over your head in debt can make you downright depressed, especially if you feel like you can never pay back all the money you owe. It's a situation that affects your mood and feelings even when you aren't consciously thinking about it. Here are some tips for boosting your mood and turning your frown around!
Sleep More. Many people commonly have trouble sleeping when they are stressed. If you've been restless because of the money you owe, it's time to take a step back and stop using your bedtime as your thinking time. You didn't get into debt overnight and you sure can't find a miracle cure while laying there waiting for sleep. Learning to relax and think of "happy thoughts" at bedtime will help you get more of those much needed ZZZ's, and give you a brighter outlook in the morning (not to mention the health benefits that come with getting enough sleep).
Don't Dwell on the Debt. Sure... owing money is a big deal but put it into perspective. It's really not the end of the world, is it? Thinking about the money you owe all day is not going to solve the problem - it's only going to make you sick with stress and anxiety. Keep good records of what money is owed so that you don't have to carry it around in your mind all day (writing it down frees you to think of other things - like how to earn more money).
Appreciate What You Have. Even if you owe a lot of money, chances are you have a lot to be thankful for. Don't let your stress over what you need to pay cloud your ability to see the blessings you have in your life. Even if you have a lot of debt, you have assets, and probably the best things you have didn't cost a dime. Focus on the good in your life and you'll instantly improve your mood.
Get Help if You Need it. You are not alone... millions of people in the US and around the world are in similar situations - facing more debt than they know how to repay. There are non profit organizations and many helpful websites like this one which give you support and can help you make some progress towards becoming debt free. Take advantage of the resources available to you.
